“Prevention with Purpose” – Together we Can
April is a busy month for CASA/Family Systems-Edisto Children’s Center. Given the historical beginnings of the organization as a Rape Crisis Center chartered in 1979, and continuing that work today. The growth of that work has evolved into our work with children through our Children’s Advocacy Center – Edisto Children’s Center.
During the month of April, we recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Child Abuse Prevention Month is to raise public awareness of the importance of communities working together to help families thrive and prevent child maltreatment. Throughout the year, communities are encouraged to increase awareness about child and family well-being and work together to implement effective strategies that support families and prevent child abuse and neglect.
The purpose of Sexual Assault Awareness Month is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and prioritize prevention through education and collective action.
Our theme this year is “Prevention with Purpose-Together we Can”. As an organization we strive to put our efforts to prevent interpersonal violence in families and with individuals. We also recognize that the most effective way to achieve this goal is with our community partners throughout our service area.
April 19 – 23, 2021 – We will wear the colors blue and/or teal for the week in recognition of the both campaigns. Blue for Child Abuse Prevention Month and Teal for Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
April 21, 2021 – This year we are having an appreciation day outside of our offices on John C Calhoun Drive to recognize those who have been continuous partners and have provided valuable a support in our prevention efforts.
